My Story

I was born and raised in Iowa, a state I cherish, although I don't always agree with everything that here. My parents, my father an electrician and my mother an office worker, encouraged me to get involved in 4H. While my friends showcased animals, my taught me to wire homes, and I discovered my passion for home improvement. Growing up in an old house that needed renovations sparked my interest in the process. After graduating from high school in Madrid, attended DMACC and earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from William Penn. I purchased my first home in my early 20s, which required some work, and with help from my family, I transformed it beautifully. After getting married and starting a family, we moved from Des Moines to Grimes, facing the price shock again but eventually finding a suitable townhome. When our family grew, I remodeled our home for an additional bedroom just in time for the birth of our second child. Unfortunately, we faced challenges when our son was born a micro preemie, leading us to navigate a new world of special needs care and waiver processes. In 2016, we learned there would be a lengthy wait for necessary waivers, and now, in 2024, we are still awaiting one. When we discovered our active waiver covered essential home modifications for our son's needs, we struggled to find contractors willing to take on the work. After much discussion, my wife and I decided that if no one else would step up we would take matters into our own hands. That's how McDaniel Home Services was born; we're dedicated to helping those in need and serving clients who want our assistance.
